Becca and the Sneaky Violinist: Part 21

Post by Onna Carr

“Martin, do you need something,” Becca questioned. “Yes, the production accounts thus far,” Martin replied. “They are all on this zip drive, and I have three back-up copies,” Becca replied, handing Martin a zip drive. “I was also hoping I could borrow Ben for a game of basketball and an ice cream run,” Martin added with a smile. “Only if you bring him back with a pint of chocolate-chunk ice cream,” Becca replied, and Ben and Martin left with nods and smiles.

“Did someone put you up to this?” Becca questioned, turning to me after the others had left and I had asked her to the gala. “No, they didn’t,” I replied. “Did your girlfriend turn you down, or is there some ulterior motive behind this? Why don’t you go make your professions to any of the women who would give either arm to be your insignificant other?” Becca asked. “I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t want to make my professions to anyone else, and I don’t want an insignificant other. I want you, and I want Ben, and to that end I am asking you to come with me to the gala. Is it so hard to believe that someone might know who you are and what you have endured and love you the better for it?” I asked. “Yes, it is. I had my heart ripped out the day my father and stepmother died, and I don’t want that to occur again. I don’t give my love easily, and when I do, I give it forever,” Becca explained. “I have gathered as much,” I replied in understanding.

“Listen, I will go to the gala with you, but it doesn’t mean that. . .,” Becca began. “You are engaged to me and we’ll be married in a fortnight?” I questioned with a smile. “Exactly,” Becca concluded.
