The defining thing about Bra'tac, I think, is his common use of the phrase: "We shall cross that bridge when we come to it." I think that is a very important concept. Because, if you look at Bra'tac, and look past the cool armor, the staff weapon, the action, at the heart of this warrior is one word: intention.
Intention for good is a wonderful thing. Intention is what made Bra'tac choose to train Teal'c. Intention is what made Teal'c choose the SGC. Intention is what defeated the Goa'uld, and brought freedom to the Jaffa. And, if we so choose, I think that intention is what can bring freedom to our own lives.
"Crossing that bridge when we come to it" may be the key to reclaiming our busy lives. It's not that there's anything wrong with to-do lists. You have to know where the bridges in life are. But, we aren't made to jump from bridge to bridge, rushing through the landscape of our lives. We are made to "cross that bridge when we come to it" enjoying the view and the people who are walking with us at this moment in time.
As much as I'd love to have a staff weapon, armor, and a zat-zat those things wouldn't make me Bra'tac, but what I can do is live with intention like he did. I can cross life's bridges when I come to them with confidence. I can enjoy the land between the bridges and its beauty. And, I can enjoy the people I journey with because they're what really matters , and so can you.
We will still have long lists of things to do. That's life. But, when we do those things with intention, and rise to our daily challenges, we will have something better than "life for life's sake." We will have a life filled with purpose and meaning and that makes me feel good--"like a young man of eighty."
