What led you to start Paleo Eats and when did you start Paleo Eats?
I started Paleo Eats in 2012. I had always loved baking, and when each of my 3 children showed symptoms of food intolerances, I had to learn an entirely new way of baking without gluten, dairy or grains. This new way of baking and self education turned into a business! I had never envisioned myself as an entrepreneur but here I am and I’m so happy I did!
I love the name of your business, and I am just curious how you arrived at “Paleo Eats” for a name?
Thank you! You know, I had no rhyme or reason! I had a business partner at the time, and we came up with this name together. We wanted it to be super obvious that this is “Paleo,” and that "Paleo" was important to us.
What is your favorite aspect of owning and operating Paleo Eats?
I am very passionate about education. I’ve had too many people around me suffer from autoimmune diseases, etc, and prevention is the key. There are way too many people nowadays being diagnosed with celiac or some sort of food related disease. I’m not just out there selling bars but I want people to know why it’s important to eat this way, super clean.
What have you learned the most from opening and running your business?
Oh my… I’m constantly learning! Being in business by myself, there’s a lot of hats I must wear. I’m always listening to podcasts, reading books, articles…… I’ve learned what I’m good at and what I need to allocate. I’ve learned I’m not as organized as I seem!
What tips and ideas do you have for other’s who would like to sell specialty food products?
I have received SO much guidance here in Bend. There are so many food entrepreneurs here, business groups to join, it’s been a wonderful ride. I would just say to go out there and ask for help. Talk to business owners who you look up to: they’re all willing to help you out. I know I’m always willing to pass on the information I’ve learned. We should all want each other to succeed!
What is at the heart of your business that you want your customers to take home?
I want them to know that I am a mother of 3 kids, ages 6, 8 and 10. My passion for this business all stemmed from them. I’m all about PREVENTION. So many diseases stem from inflammation. If we cut down on those inflammatory foods that we put in our body, our chances of staying healthy and leading an active life are so much greater.
