Dinner with Robert Carlyle

Post by Onna Carr

If I could have dinner with my favorite actor or musician, I think I would choose having dinner with Robert Carlyle and his family. Mr. Carlyle is my favorite actor because he realistically portrays characters who might not always do the right thing, but typically do try their best in whatever way they can and have a quiet and beautiful spirit about them.

Carlyle grew up in Scotland, and started his career as a painter, but then he began to take lessons in acting, and the rest is history. I think my favorite films he has done are Carla's Song, California Solo, the Hamish Macbeth series, and of course Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School.

More than his acting career itself, I like that Carlyle spent his earnings, once he made it in the industry, to buy his father a home, and that he and his family traveled together to projects, because that was important to them all. I also like that despite all his success, Carlyle has remained very humble, and has kept his delightful sense of humor and his quality of performance, which is rare.

I think Robert Carlyle and his work reminds me of the quote from Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Robert is present in his moment, and like most beautiful things in this world, "does not ask for attention," which is the reason I think dinner and conversation with him would be interesting.
