This decision was broken however in the light of Lydia’s final tragedy. Lydia’s lapse in judgment had cost her the character she had, the youth she possessed, and ultimately, the life she was given.
She gave birth to a son, who was named after his father, and she soon became pregnant again. At seventeen, she gave birth to her second child, a daughter, while Wickham was away at war. Lydia died in childbirth.
