As Dar approached the two-story house on the street corner, the smell of bacon, eggs, and pancakes wafted out of an open window near the backdoor.

Dar went to the back door and knocked to have it opened by Elizabeth. She was wearing a Huck-embroidered gingham apron. Her hair was tied in a red kerchief and tucked carefully away from view.
