Make America (and the World) Gate Again: Get to the Gate Summer Camp 2018!

Get to the Gate Summer Camp 2018 began in September 2017 as we pulled into an automotive repair shop. We realized that this was no ordinary auto shop as we walked in to find Turkish glass mosaic lamps and reversible wrap-about skirts created from recycled silk saris. It felt as if we had walked through a portal, or should I say, gate, into another world. Behind the counter sat Kayla, a wonderful lady, who, by the time the car had received a clean bill of health, had agreed to spend the day with us and gave us the locals’ tour of the area, complete with burros and where to get the best lunch in town. During our tour, Kayla suggested we look up Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis as we might enjoy these television series.
As autumn segued into winter, Bob and I ran into a local library and found that the first season of Stargate SG-1 was checked out and that the first season of Stargate Atlantis was checked in, and we decided to start Stargate Atlantis first. The rest of the 2017-2018 winter’s media time was spent watching Stargate Atlantis Season 1-5 as Bob and I found the series to be the intergalactic equivalent of our favorite BBC and American television series, Larkrise to Candleford, Cranford, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Star Trek Voyager--sharing the same themes community, in this case in the vacuum of space rather than in rural Victorian England, the wild west, or. . . the vacuum of space.
In January, when considering what film/series to feature in summer, Stargate series and films were the obvious choice. I then contacted various actors via their agents, which led to David Hewlett's "Life After Stargate Parody," Dean Aylesworth's fascinating and informative two-part interview, and David Nykl's interesting interview. I also got in touch with fans via the forum on http://www.gateworld.com (love the APP), Facebook groups and pages with Stargate-themes, and on Twitter, which led to the many wonderful posts from fans around the world. The overwhelming response led to a significant change on this blog as I went from a Friday only scheduled posting to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday posting schedule, which will be continuing on after this event as I resume lifestyle, VLOG, and interview posts with designers, artists, and foodies.
The response to the Get to the Gate Summer Camp 2018 has surpassed projections and any expectations with 1363 (and counting!) participants from literally all around the world every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as we view posts, share, and connect via the blog, Facebook groups, Twitter, Pinterest, and Twitter. To celebrate the participants, writers, interviewees, and VLOGGERS who have shared their time and their memories with us at Get to the Gate Summer Camp, we have made the two included videos (turn subtitles on the last video for a "secret" message). Thanks to all who have shared and to all who have participated at Get to the Gate Summer Camp 2018: You have all been a great team to Gate with!
