New Years--a Resolution

Today is New Year's Eve--a time for preparation and introspection as we approach a new year full of opportunity. I am thankful for another year on this third rock from the Sun, and grateful for the many blessing 2018 has been given.
One thing that I do not understand is New Year's resolutions in the general sense of the words. Why does our culture decide that the new year is the perfect time to inundate ourselves and our schedules and our full of holiday goodies bodies with additional duties and extreme fitness regimens?
As I raise the parting glass to 2018, I have a set of resolutions, but they vary greatly from the usual list.
I resolve to spend more time with those I care about, and less time online.
I resolve to worry less about the future and to live more in the present moment, which truly is a gift.
I resolve to invest in joy and to share hope.
I resolve not concern myself with my current weight, my muscle mass (or lack thereof), but continue to exercise both my mind and my body for health, wellness, and longevity.
As 2019 comes, I am grateful for the opportunity to rethink resolutions and to create some healthy resolutions that will insure 2019 is truly the best year so far!!
