Release Burdens

This last week, I read a portion in a devotional prayer journal, Be Still and Know: Devotional Prayer Journal by Kristin Schultz with my family that discussed a unique exercise in mindfulness: as you go about your day, if you are feeling worn down by something, grab a stone or object of your choice and hold it in your hand. As you handle the stone or object, think about what burden or burden you need to release, and let it go in your mind, transferring the weight of your burden into the weight of the object. Observe the burden transferred to the rock or the object of your choice in your hand, and think about it in a way that holds the weight of that care away from you physically and mentally. Then, after a prayer giving the burden to the only one who can carry it in the first or last place, set the rock or object to the side and go on with your day with less care and greater strength to live in the present. What a great exercise for mindfulness and care reduction!
