This weekend, the Hastings Symphony in Hastings, Nebraska, is putting on an interesting concert featuring the work of two innovative Nebraskans. Professor Tyler White, a Nebraskan composer, has partnered with Jorn Olsen, the award-winning, Nebraskan photographer, to bring “Soundscapes,” a multi-media production of music and photographs, to life in a unique and stunning world premier. This production is certain to be a memorable affair of quality and beauty.
Tyler White is the Professor of Composition and Conducting and the Director of Orchestras at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Professor White has been a guest lecturer overseas and has received international acclaim. Professor Tyler White has his degree from Cornell University, and he has studied in Denmark and France.
Jorn Olsen’s nature photography is stunning. My favorite of his works is “Whistlestop Vista,” a panoramic view of the Nebraska Sandhills, showing their magnificent presence in a scale that is fitting for such an open space. Jorn’s book, Across a Wide Horizon, is a beautiful showcase of his love for the beauty of nature. Across a Wide Horizon is truly a great work of art and a portfolio of Olsen’s images which are available in many formats ranging from greeting cards to panoramic wall art. Mr. Olsen has an amazing gallery in downtown Hastings, Nebraska, exhibiting his life’s work and a website featuring his book and available prints.
