Stand By Your Man: Part 26

“Could you join us for dinner, Sunil? Pete here has already graciously invited himself over,” Addi stated with a smile as Sunil caught a glimpse of Addi’s wry humor. “Yes, I am suave,” Pete replied as Addi took Tamil from him and began to get acquainted with his new granddaughter, whom he seemed smitten with. “Nahim (no), Addi. Sunil has his engagement party this evening,” Emma replied before Sunil could answer. Addi appeared somewhat surprised as he turned from Sunil to Emma. “Acchah (okay), Emmaji,” Addi said in answer.
“Nemaste (goodbye), Sunil. Maim (I) hope and pray the best for apa (you),” Emma said as she extended her hand to him in farewell. “Nemaste (goodbye), Emmaji, same, same,” Sunil replied as he shook her hand. Emma then turned with an understanding nod and left the airport with her father. Sunil watched the pair until he could no longer see them in the parking lot, the father and daughter’s heads close together, and Addi with his one arm about his daughter and his other arm tightly holding onto Tamil while Emma had her one arm about Addi and her other held tightly onto her duffel.
