Thankful, Grateful, Blessed

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find that I love this holiday more and more with each passing year. I love that Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful and to count the blessings I already possesses--a day to cultivate gratefulness.
Ann Voscamp wrote a beautiful book on cultivating gratefulness, One Thousand Gifts, that was her experiment in writing down her blessings and what they meant to her in a gratitude journal. Voscamp's lovely work was then published in a condensed version, entitled, Selections From One Thousand Gifts: Finding Joy in What Really Matters. I like this edition of Voscamp's work as it a perfect weekend afternoon read in front of a fireplace with a view of the falling leaves. This diminutive volume is also a lovely house-warming or hostess gift to bless others with!
Today, in the spirit of the thankful season, my family and I watched Brother David Steindle-Rast's TED Talk, "You Want to Be Happy? Be Grateful." Brother Steindle-Rast discusses that we should cross the roads in our lives with the "stop, look, go!" principle: we should stop, realize our blessings, and go on in gratefulness. Brother Steindle-Rost's talk is fifteen minutes long. Have a gratefully-blessed Thanksgiving!!
