The Voided Check: Part 16
Post by Onna Carr
Elinor and Mike were legally married by the time the next month’s rent was due, and they determined to keep Elinor’s apartment. Mike sold all his furnishings, save his bed and dresser, which he moved into the living room of Elinor’s apartment. Nothing much else was altered except that Mike’s cranberry-almond soda bread could be found on the kitchen counter when Elinor awoke in the morning, and Irish Breakfast found a spot beside Earl Grey in the tea drawer, where they cohabitated in an equanimity greater than that of their consumers. Mike was gone before Elinor awoke in the mornings, and he stayed away until she had fallen asleep at night, choosing to work “o’er time” to earn extra and to give Elinor space.
