Together, Elinor and Mike began to ease one another’s fears and carry each other’s burdens as they called each other’s bluffs and were blind to them, in that moment, in that sphere. Mike would talk about his three brothers and two sisters who lived in Dublin, his parents who had settled in Kilkenney, and his dream of moving to Tipperary, building his own white-washed cottage and earning his cranberry-almond soda bread by fishing, gardening, and a bit o’ paintin’ on the side at the breakfasts and dinners the two would share.
