“I made ye breakfast,” Mike said, placing the food on the bedside table. “You spent the night here?” Elinor questioned. “Slept on the couch,” Mike replied. “Oh what a bloody mess. What will people say?” Elinor asked, shifting the cold pack about on her head. “Ye could either tell ‘em that ye had chills and a fever spike, or that ye couldna resist me charms or me soda bread,” Mike helpfully suggested with a grin. “You provoking . . . Irishmen!” Elinor retorted in agitation, not exactly sure how to react to his comic relief. “Likewise . . . Aussie. I’ll leave ye to your breakfast,” Mike concluded, leaving Elinor’s bedroom and apartment with a respectful nod.
